Mini-symposium „Water“

As a part of the mini-symposium ˝Water˝ 23-24 November 2017, Blue Education for Sustainable Management of Aquatic Resources (BLUE SMART) project and a new graduate study ˝Sustainable Management of Aquatic Resources˝ has been presented.

Speakers of the symposium, along with many international scientists and teachers, were Associate Professor Bosiljka Mustać, who is also the leader of the BLUE SMART project and Bruna Petani, PhD from the Department of Ecology, Agronomy and Aquaculture at University of Zadar.

The hosts of the symposium were the leading people of the AERES (University of Applied Sciences) Wil Bekkering, Annet Pouw and Linda Nol from Almere, Netherlands.  AERES University is focused on education, research and sharing of knowledge. It conducts undergraduate and graduate level programs in the field of water biology and ecology, hydrology and agronomy. The University of Zadar achieves a successful cooperation with the AERES University.

Associate Professor Bosiljka Mustać emphasized that the new University Study was created as a part of the project Blue Education for Sustainable Management of Aquatic Resources (BLUE SMART), whose main goal is to create new skills and knowledge in the blue sector and to increase employment opportunities for present and future employees of this sector in Zadar County and wider. This is the first graduate study within biotechnology field at the University of Zadar, and since its very beginnings it has been prepared in co-ordination with experts from the most important companies in the field of fisheries, aquaculture and the protection of freshwater and marine environment. Bruna Petani, PhD presented BLUE SMART project and its current activities and results. During the second day of the symposium there were workshops on water pollution and the importance of international cooperation in solving them.

After the workshop, Associate Professor Bosiljka Mustać presented complete program of the new graduate study ¨Sustainable Management of Aquatic Resources˝ to the 3rd year undergraduate students and possible exchange of students at the international level through the Erasmus+ program and so on.
